Omigod, you guys!
Yes, that’s a phrase sung throughout the opening number of “Legally Blonde: The Musical.”
Last year on my radio show Sarah and I discovered yet ANOTHER movie was coming to Broadway (that’s a topic I hope to be delving into as the semester goes on). When I found out the film “Legally Blonde“ was coming to Broadway I was not happy. Of all of the movies to put on Broadway, “Legally Blonde”?! I LOVE that movie, but before it came out on Broadway I just could not picture it.
When I saw a preview of the musical online with “Omigod, You Guys!” and a song dedicated to the “Bend and Snap,” I laughed and could not believe they were putting this on Broadway. I thought it would be silly to have a whole song dedicated to that single move. After the musical opened I heard great things about it. MTV last semester broadcasted the play on their channel for millions of people to watch. I heard wonderful reviews about this broadcast as well.
Two weeks ago I finally got to see the Broadway show for myself and I was COMPLETELY PROVEN WRONG. I know now just because a movie may be coming to Broadway, it may not be all that bad. In fact, the play was EXCELLENT!

Laura Bell Bundy truly shined in the role of Elle Woods. The story is the same as the movie but with a few different twists. Instead of Elle meeting Emmitt (her future romantic interest) outside at the Harvard courtyard, he happens to be her tour guide! Also, if you Legally Blonde fans remember the film, Elle had an entrance video to be accepted into Harvard Law instead of an essay. Well in the musical, she flies out her friends to Harvard and do a huge musical number! Check it out here:
There are also very many differences you will find in the play, but there are too many I could possibly list here.
Every song was wonderful; the lyrics were very catchy and were up-to-date with today’s day and age. What I was also happy about was they did not take songs from the movie and make those the musical numbers in the show (ie: “Perfect Day“ by Hoku.).
If you happen to get to New York City in the near future, I strongly urge you to check out this show! You will be blown away by the energy and the talent of such a vibrant cast.
Here’s the “bend and snap” if you need a refresher!
And here’s what regular theatergoers thought of the play.
