As I mentioned in an earlier post, there has been a trend of movies turning into musicals on Broadway. This upcoming musical marks another example: “Shrek“.
“Shrek!” The movie many children AND adults have come to know and love. There’s even a “Shrek” 2 and 3.
An article on Broadway.com announced that stars Sutton Foster, Christopher Sieber and Kecia Lewis-Evans have joined the cast already.
Foster is signed up to play Princess Fiona, Sieber will play Lord Farquaad and Lewis-Evans will play the Dragon.
While previews for the play begin on November 8th, the show will officially open December 14th at the Broadway Theatre.
Several roles including Shrek and the Donkey haven’t been cast yet…So we’ll see what happens.
Now this is a show that, compared to other movie-musicals, may fare well on Broadway. The story is very cute and has a wonderful story line. I am confident already in the decision of bringing Foster and Sieber to the cast…I’m not sure about the other actress because I haven’t seen her in any shows yet. I am curious to hear what types of songs will be written for the show. I am also curious to know how the scenes will be played out. But again, we will see about all of this in due time.
